It is odd that it lasted just a decade. I remmeber a few years ago it was massive and was something everyone talked about. It started off as a sort of social experiment, but eventually became a big part of celebrity culture and reality television. It seemed as if all television was to be subsumed by one or other form of reality television. And then it sort of faded away - people became critical, audience levels fell, media moved on and now it is cancelled.

It is odd to think that it was really so massive and for such a short period of time. A bit like the way the Spice Girls were huge. I wonder how social historians will look back on it and the general public, it is naff and a lot of it was quite dull. The people on it were attention seeking arguers and it seems so weird to look back on it.

Reality TV still seems to dominate the screens, but it seems to be more pseudo documentaries with a more serious edge(Apprentice, Supernanny, etc). Even the property programs seems to be in decline. I am sort of hoping that drama will make a come back.

But if my future self reads this I must admit for the first few years I did enjoy Big Brother and even when it became naff I took some interest in proceeds. I just don't quite know why.

comments
